Independent Forums: What are you currently reading?

Matthew Higham: Between the world and me – Ta-Nehisi Coates

Independent Forums: What is your favourite way to recharge?

Matthew Higham: Doing anything outside especially in water – surfing, scuba diving, swimming

Independent Forums: Who or what has inspired you this year and why?

Matthew Higham: Humanity in general – the response we are now seeing as a more humanised society to tackle the big challenges is becoming more visible and intentional.

Independent Forums: What is your biggest source of motivation?

Matthew Higham: Purpose – to be able to bring people together to tackle challenges that we used to put into the ‘too hard’ bucket

Independent Forums: How would you describe a typical day?

Matthew Higham: Fast paced, outcome driven, transient but connected

Independent Forums: What’s one thing about you that most people don’t know?

Matthew Higham: Probably the same thing that we often fail to see in each other – self doubt, imposter syndrome

Independent Forums: What’s one thing about your organisation that you wish more people knew?

Matthew Higham: Just how driven towards purpose it is and the culture of the people within – difficult to understand until you are in it 😊

Independent Forums: What habit have you picked up during the pandemic that you will maintain in future?

Matthew Higham: Reaching out directly to speak to people rather than email, IM – ignoring hierarchy

Independent Forums: How has your perception about the world of work evolved over the past two years?

Matthew Higham: We’ve humanised work and truly recognised the blend of lifestyle & work into one. The fusion of home life and work life has been a battle in the past, now we can finally fuse the two, complimentary to each other and bring the human value back into the workplace to drive diversity, creativity and empathy.

Independent Forums: Where do you see the biggest opportunity to transform the way we work?

Matthew Higham: It comes back to purpose – the recognition that we have both the capability and agency to adopt digital technologies in augmentation to human activity to create purposeful career paths and work for our colleagues.

Independent Forums: What are you most looking forward to at Future Work Scenarios 2022?

Matthew Higham: Listening to others and their journeys both until now and the future. Understanding the challenges we face and the knowledge that we are all in this together.

Matthew Higham will deliver a keynote talk focusing on the digital skills shift and what it means for business and society at the Future Work Scenarios event on 12 May in London.
